Pulp App Reviews

Not as useful as it could be

Pulp shows all of the entries for the feeds, with no option to only display unread items. I wish it could do that as I am searching for a Google Reader replacement. Also, the length of each column is set in stone (in the preferences) so I tend to see either a lot of read items, or else the column is too short to display all of the unread items. I wish it could dynamically size itself to only show unread items. Also, as others have mentioned, there is no count of unread items, which would also be useful.

One of a kind… but there is always room to improve!

If you dont like the feel of most list based readers, and prefer the "old school" newspaper feel, Pulp is as close as you are going to get to the real thing! It has a very customizable layout, which takes a little tinkering with top get the best newspaper feel to it, but stick with it because its worth it when you figure it out. With the Apple magic track pad, you can zoom in and out with ease, which makes reading the articles much easier on the eyes. At $10 it is a bit pricy for what it is, but for me, the ability to have an actually newspaper waiting for me on my desktop each morning it worth it, the lists are just so cold and uninviting!!!! If Im not mistaking, I believe Pulp is developed from Times RSS Reader. The only way to make Pulp better would be to make it even more newspaper like; Times hade an interface option to toggle a "page curl" which was awesome and made it feel much more like an actual paper newspaper. As it would seem that Pulp is aspiring to be the closest thing to a paper newspaper, my only request to the developers would be to make it feel more like paper, and the "page curl" option would go a long way to doing that; and I have no clue, but it would seem to be a relatively simple option… just my two cents. Thanks for the hard work!

Excellent Software

Im back to using pulp, it is much more stable now. I like the sync with the iPad, though the frequency of update is a little bit long.

Not what I was looking for but all I could find

After the closure of Google Reader, I needed a new app for RSS feeds. After several tries on cheaper apps, that were completely insufficient, I purchased this one. It is a long way from good, because they tried to make it to big. Clunky. Disorganized. And simply wont accept all rss feeds.

Pretty, but Gaping Holes

I just revisted this app after Reeder stopped working. It looks pretty at first, but the full screen option looks terrible (it zooms out and mattes the "paper" on a cheap looking wood background). This might only frustrate me, but it does a poor job grabbing the photos from the feeds to which Im subscribed. It insists on having featured photos for most of its diplay options, though, and provides a blank, grey filler photo for most posts, which looks cheap. The Magic Reader isnt that pretty either. Once you click on a post, it shows you the regular setting and then switches to the magic setting after your screen is already on it. Again, looks cheap. I have no faith their updates will improve anything too significantly.

Possibly the best news app on the app store

The market for news apps on the mac app store is very thin, and at the top of the list is pulp. Pulp is i different kind of news app comapred to the others on the app store; it does not sync with any news reader accounts you my have. This was not a problem for my because I never used any of them (ex. Google Reader). But instead you can pick what rss service it gets is news from. All you have to do is find a rss service ( 9to5mac or patently apple for example), basically any rss website will work. Once you fo that you can organize them in to catagories and colums. It does come with a few catagories allready set up. I was a little hestiant to buy this at first after finding out that facebook purchased the developers that make pulp, but after a few emails with the developer I was reassured that facebook only bought the developers, not the apps that they made. Also I was told that this version will not be abandoned like the iPad version was. Pulp for mac will not be getting any major updates, but rather small ones (performance & encancments for example). The only thing that I dont like is that the red, green & yellow in the top left are not colored at all, they are all a whitish color. Overall a very nice app & probably the best in the app store. I suppose this would not work for you if you used google reader or a similar service. It works briliantly for people that dont use google reader.

strange ui and flakey function

i have a ton of feeds im trying to land somewhere and figured i would give this a try. well i got them all loaded and it blew up a few times in the process but i figured i would keep going forward and try to make this work. got everything loaded up and started reading feeds. well, i really dont get the interface. theres this band at the bottom of the window of the articles that you are reading that is gray and takes up a third or quarter of the reading area. HUH? no way to turn this odd thing off and its an annoyance. well i read 15 or so articles then i got a beachball and it had to be force-quit. oh well, i guess this is not going to work.

Dont waste your money

I shelled out the money for the Mac app and corresponding iPad app. Total waste, the app is not very user friendly and makes organizing your feeds a chore. Wrote support to express my displeasure and all I received was silence. Evidently they do not have any sort of satisfaction guarantee and could care less once you have already bought the products.

A Great Product in Need of an Upgrade

Pulp for Desktop is a wonderful product. It looks great and does almost everything one would hope for. Unfortunetly its iCloud integartion does not work. As a result people who also use the iPad version will run into all kinds of synching issues. That is if synch even is working which it almost never does. Sadlly the makers of Pulp are working for Facebook and no longer are putting a lot of time into updating their wonderful products.

Company has abandoned ship-Dont waste your money

This would be a great app - except that it is now dead and none of its flaws will ever be fixed So dont waste your money. The company sold out to Facebook so you will never get updates or support Thanks Facebook

Total Waste of Ten Bucks...

Don’t bother with this app. The layout / user interface is a complete mess. Not very user friendly, had to go to the support page to figure out how to import my OPML file.

Crap.

This app is crap.

Dear Dustin

Any chance of a Yosemite UI update?

Basically just another RSS App.

It’s basically just like any other RSS reader. I don’t find the layout particularly useful, and it doesn’t seem to update as often as the other RSS reader apps I have tried using the same feeds. Maybe if there is a update for Yosemite, it will improve. But given the price, I don’t think it was worth getting.

CRASHY - please fix!

I can’t believe I actually paid for this app, which used to work, but now crashes when trying to launch it - using OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 - Is anyone reading this?Is this basically abandonware now? HELLO???
